That’s exactly what happened when I visited Kasui Lily Garden in Shizuoka, a place so vibrant it feels like stepping into a painting. I wasn’t prepared for how breathtaking it would be—my heart skipped a beat as I stood amidst thousands of blooming lilies!
Kasui Lily Garden is tucked away in the serene city of Fukuroi, a hidden gem that bursts into life from late May to early July. This place is special, not just because of the stunning lilies but also for its tranquil atmosphere. As I strolled through the 30,000-tsubo expanse, the sweet fragrance of lilies filled the air, and I couldn’t help but smile at the beauty surrounding me.
The Lilies: A Rainbow on Earth
Walking into the garden, you’re greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors—reds, whites, yellows, each lily more beautiful than the last. The highlight for me was the yellow Suka lilies covering the fields. It was like walking through a sea of sunshine! And just when you think it can’t get any better, you stumble upon patches of pink hybrid lilies adding a lovely contrast. Honestly, it was so picturesque; I half expected to see a film crew capturing the scene!
What’s cool is that this garden was even used as a filming location for a movie. I mean, I totally get it—if I were a director, I’d set my entire film here too!
Not Just Lilies: The Hydrangea Surprise
Just when I thought I’d seen it all, I stumbled into an area blooming with hydrangeas. A Taste of the Unusual
After all that wandering, I was starving. Luckily, the garden has its own eatery where I tried something I never thought I’d eat—lily tempura! Yes, you read that right. Light, crispy, and surprisingly delicious. Paired with a zaru soba set, it was the perfect meal to wrap up my floral adventure. The tempura was about ¥1,200 (around $8 USD), and worth every yen!
